Who are we?

We are a free community service that provides accurate up-to-date information on disability and the disability support services available in the Wellington Region. We are located on the Kapiti Coast at the Kapiti Community Centre, in Ngahina Street, Paraparaumu.

So what is a disability?.

A disability is an impairment which reduces one’s capacity to participate fully in any aspect of life and society.

 Our aim is to help provide:

• Specialized knowledge on services including information on building access, education, employment and finance/benefits.
• The Total Mobility Scheme - We are Agents for this scheme and provide assessements and information 
• Hiring & Trialing Equipment – shower stools, toilet seat raisers, walkers, wheelchairs, crutches
• Sourcing and Purchasing Equipment – hand rails, jar openers, scooters, walking canes, walkers, wheelchairs etc
• Travel, transport and recreation information, including  the Travel Access Database
• Community contacts, disability networking meeting, presentations to groups about the service.
• Access to a compressive Disability Support Service Directory
• Access to the WEKA and Fund View websites from a dedicated PC in our Centre

The Disability Information Service and Centres are governed by a charitable trust and are affiliated with the New Zealand Federation of Disability Information Centres. 

Funding is received through sponsors, grants, donations, office referrals and some small service charges. The trust needs to continuously fund-raise and is very appreciative of the individuals who volunteer at our centre’s and the wider community.
